The Nigerian Exchange closed in the green on Friday, but it was a one-stock rally.  The All Share Index added 15 basis points to close at 246,388.22, with oil major SEPLAT doing almost all the work.

The producer hit a 10.00% limit up to close at ₦13,552.60 and, on its own, contributed more than the index’s entire gain. That means the rest of the market, in aggregate, finished lower.

Without SEPLAT, Friday would have been a red day. ARADEL gave back most of Tuesday’s gains, dropping 5.84% to ₦1,450.00 after 144,100 units crossed at that price. NASCON extended its slump with an 8.03% fall to ₦161.40, having gone from ₦195.00 to ₦161.40 in just two sessions. RTBRISCOE also went limit down 10.00% to ₦9.90, while CMFC, SOVRENINS and ABBEYBANK each lost more than 9%.

Banks struggled for a second straight session. FIDELITYBK fell 2.50% to ₦19.50 and ACCESSCORP shed 2.44% to ₦30.05, both slipping below Monday’s open. UBA declined 1.08% to ₦46.00 and GTCO eased 0.23% to ₦132.70. Only ZENITHBANK and FIRSTHOLDCO managed small gains. Turnover still ticked up, with volume rising 1.71% and value up 3.48%. Offshore flows stayed narrow, concentrated in GTCO, NESTLE and NB.

There was some good news on the index front. FTSE Russell confirmed Nigeria’s return to Frontier Market status effective September 21, 2026, and added ten Nigerian companies to its FTSE Frontier Index Series as newly eligible large caps: Aradel Holdings, Dangote Cement, First HoldCo, GTCO, MTN Nigeria, Nestlé Nigeria, Nigerian Breweries, Presco, Stanbic IBTC Holdings and Zenith Bank.

Other block deals included 10.8m units of GTCO at ₦132.90, 90.1m units of UBA at ₦46.20, and 139,100 units of SEPLAT at ₦13,552.60.
