The Nigerian Exchange extended its winning streak to eight straight sessions on Wednesday as the All-Share Index (ASI) added 23bps to close at 251,191.02 points.

The lift came from the same three heavyweights that have carried the market all week. MTN Nigeria rose 0.59% to N855.00, ZENITHBANK gained 2.27% to N135.00 and FIRSTHOLDCO advanced 1.35% to N165.00, with the trio accounting for most of the day's gains.

Banking tickers remained firm. ACCESSCORP added 1.16% to N30.50, JAIZBANK climbed 1.91% to N8.00 and GTCO inched up to N137.50 on about a quarter of the day's total value traded, while STANBIC held onto Tuesday's jump at N164.00.

In the consumer space, NASCON extended its rally, up 4.20% to N183.40, while NAHCO surged 7.69% to N140.00. Other gainers included HONYFLOUR which rose 7.67% to N16.85, INTBREW up 1.04% to N9.75, OANDO 0.42% higher at N36.15 and ETERNA which hit the ceiling at N38.50.

The laggards list thinned out. HBMNG eased 0.53% to N359.60 and DANGCEM slipped 0.12% to N1,066.70, the two largest drags of the session. DANGSUGAR shed 0.70% to N71.00, PZ was off 0.94% to N73.80, UCAP fell 5.00% to N17.10 and WEMABANK declined 0.62% to N31.80.

Turnover told two stories as volume jumped 89.97% while value fell 5.63%. The volume spike was driven by large crosses in FTGINSURE, with 855 million units changing hands. Stripping out the crosses, volume was also lower.

Offshore interest was concentrated in GTCO, which attracted three foreign houses, while CAP and PZ each drew one foreign participation.
