NGX Breaks 250,000 in Sixth Straight Gain as FTSE Russell Upgrade Takes Effect

The Nigerian Exchange extended its winning run to six sessions on Monday, pushing the All-Share Index through the 250,000 mark for the first time as the FTSE Russell reclassification took effect.
The ASI closed 14bps higher at 250,156.80, brushing off profit-taking pressures and the overhang of the ongoing Dangote Refinery IPO.
HBMNG led the advance, rising 2.84% to N355.00 and accounting for most of the day's gains. GTCO added 3.00% to N133.90 and TRANSCORP climbed 6.78% to N37.00, while NASCON hit the daily ceiling at N176.00.
The heavyweights that powered Friday's rally paused - MTNN closed flat at N890.00, FIRSTHOLDCO at N160.00 and DANGCEM at N1,050.00.
OKOMUOIL provided the main drag, crashing to the floor at N1,276.20 in its first price movement since August and erasing most of the gains from the leaders. CUSTODIAN shed 9.13% to N68.15, INTBREW fell 3.50% to N9.65, UBA dipped 0.79% to N44.20 and ETI slipped 0.52% to N66.65.
The banking sector otherwise leaned positive, with ACCESSCORP up 2.74% to N29.95, FIDELITYBK up 1.31% to N19.35 and ZENITHBANK marginally firmer at N128.60.
Outside financials, NB rose 2.99% to N77.45, OANDO gained 4.85% to N35.65, UACN added 3.24% to N173.55 and CADBURY advanced 4.72% to N55.50, while ARADEL eased 1.29% to N1,530.00 on the day's second-largest value traded, trailing major crosses in ZENITHBANK.
Market activity improved, with volume up 10.20% and value up 27.60%.
Offshore interest was concentrated in two names - ZENITHBANK and GTCO - underscoring foreign appetite on the day the index change landed.
