The All-Share Index sank 91 basis points to 245,278.34 points on Monday in its steepest daily drop of the month, as bearish sentiment widened.

DANGCEM did most of the heavy lifting on the downside, sliding 5.50 per cent to N1,008.00. The banks piled on the pressure, with ZENITHBANK extending its losing streak to seven sessions after shedding 1.59 per cent to N124.00, GTCO dropping 1.44 per cent to N123.00, and ETI plunging 4.76 per cent to N68.00, surrendering most of last week's gains.

The bulls barely showed up, with STERLINGNG, FCMB and UNILEVER managing gains of less than 1 per cent apiece. One session has now wiped out more index points than the entire decline of last week.

The banking rout ran deeper, with UBA sliding 2.33 per cent to N42.00, WEMABANK shedding 3.55 per cent to N29.90, and ACCESSCORP slipping 1.93 per cent to N27.95. FIDELITYBK gave back roughly a quarter of Friday's jump, falling 1.19 per cent to N20.80, while FIRSTHOLDCO eased 0.51 per cent to N137.30. STANBIC stood its ground at N160.00.

Beyond the banks, VITAFOAM hit the floor with a 10.00 per cent limit-down slide to N174.60, CUSTODIAN shed 4.43 per cent to N66.90, and NGXGROUP lost 2.94 per cent to N165.00. ETRANZACT also gave back 6.07 per cent to N16.25 after last week's three-session limit-up run.

Among small caps, LIVESTOCK's ten-session winning streak finally snapped, albeit by a modest 0.26 per cent to N18.95. AUSTINLAZ, meanwhile, kept the party going, hitting the ceiling for a fourth straight session with a 9.93 per cent jump to N3.21. CMFC, MULTITREX and THOMASWY also joined the limit-up club.

Trading activity picked up across the board, with volume rising 35.58 per cent and value climbing 37.96 per cent. ARADEL dominated traded value by a wide margin, while volume was more broadly distributed across the banks, LIVESTOCK and a sizeable cross in HONYFLOUR.

Offshore flows were concentrated in two names, with ZENITHBANK attracting the largest foreign line, followed by GTCO. ACCESSCORP, Nigerian Breweries and DANGCEM also featured, though on a smaller scale.

The banks have been bleeding for three straight weeks, and with heavyweight DANGCEM joining the retreat, the bears are no longer fighting on just one front.
