The All-Share Index slipped 0.33 per cent on the week to close at 247,539.73 points, following last week's 0.97 per cent fall, as gains by ARADEL were outweighed by losses in banking stocks and MTNN.

No single session moved the market by more than 25 basis points, with three small losses outweighing two smaller gains.

ARADEL was the week's largest positive force, rising 8.93 per cent to N1,499.90, most of it on Thursday's 7.14 per cent jump, as it won back most of the previous week's limit-down.

MTNN lost 1.79 per cent to N825.00 after a 2.84 per cent fall on the same day, while NASCON dropped 9.48 per cent to N171.00, also on Thursday. GUINNESS rose 9.93 per cent to N423.00 on Monday and held there for the rest of the week.

The banking sector did most of the damage, with the banking index losing 3.15 per cent. ZENITHBANK fell in every session with a 6.46 per cent drop to N126.00 following the release of its results late last Friday, FIRSTHOLDCO lost 3.93 per cent to N138.00 after falls on Monday and Tuesday, and GTCO finished 5.10 per cent lower at N124.80, including a 2.27 per cent fall on Friday.

ETI was the clear exception among banks, adding 6.57 per cent to N71.40 on the back of Tuesday's 5.22 per cent jump, while FIDELITYBK, which lost 10.64 per cent last week, steadied late on, with its 4.73 per cent rise on Friday leaving it 0.24 per cent higher at N21.05. ACCESSCORP lost 3.39 per cent to N28.50 after a 4.24 per cent fall on Monday, and STERLINGNG, in its first full week of trading since the reconstruction, slipped 0.65 per cent to N76.50.

Consumer goods edged up 9 basis points, with GUINNESS's Monday jump set against NASCON's fall and four straight losses for DANGSUGAR, which finished 3.57 per cent lower at N67.50, while NESTLE and BUAFOODS were flat. INTBREW added 1.52 per cent to N10.00 and Nigerian Breweries 0.54 per cent to N75.00.

Oil and gas rose 3.13 per cent week-on-week, a gain ARADEL was overwhelmingly responsible for, while OANDO lost 3.98 per cent to N34.95 on the back of a 7.55 per cent fall on Monday.

The biggest percentage gains came from further down the board. LIVESTOCK rose in every session for a 44.49 per cent gain to N19.00 and has now more than doubled this month, ETRANZACT put together three limit-ups for 42.98 per cent to N17.30, and MULTITREX added 42.86 per cent to N0.60. AUSTINLAZ went limit-up in each of the last three sessions for 32.73 per cent to N2.92.

At the other end, ENAMELWA went limit-down on Thursday, its only move of the week, to finish 9.95 per cent lower at N36.65, and TRANSEXPR lost 9.09 per cent to N2.70 on Friday alone. Insurance slipped 14 basis points, with FTGINSURE up 13.10 per cent to N1.90, while AIICO lost 4.35 per cent to N3.96 and SUNUASSUR 7.69 per cent to N3.00.

Turnover came to 1.58 billion units worth N82.69 billion over five sessions. GTCO and ZENITHBANK between them drew the heaviest foreign interest on every day of the week.

All told, ARADEL's recovery could not cover what the banks gave up, and the index added a smaller loss to last week's.
