Nigeria's FX market recorded a sharp drop in activity last week, with total turnover in the Spot and Derivatives segments falling by over $1 billion.

Total turnover for the week-ended September 18, 2026, closed at $2,366.30 million, representing a 30.23% decrease or $1,025.34 million, from the $3,391.64 million reported for the week-ended September 11, 2026.

The decline was driven by weakness across both market segments, according to data from Table 1 of the weekly report.

FX Spot transactions accounted for the larger share of the drop. Spot turnover fell by 21.06% or $624.13 million to $2,339.52 million, compared to $2,963.65 million recorded in the previous week.

The FX Derivatives segment saw an even steeper contraction. Turnover, comprising FX Forward transactions, crashed by 93.74% or $401.21 million for the week under review.

The combined decline points to subdued liquidity and reduced trading appetite in the official FX window last week, after the strong activity recorded in the prior week.
