The Nigerian Exchange stretched its winning streak to four sessions on Thursday, with the All-Share Index rising 62 basis points to close at 246,315.50.

The advance was driven almost single-handedly by BUACEMENT, which supplied more than the entire gain on the day after hitting its daily ceiling at N297.00.

FIRSTHOLDCO provided the other major push, climbing 4.96% to N148.00, while BETAGLAS also closed limit-up, 10.00% higher at N511.50.

Beneath the two leaders, trade was mixed. TRANSCORP added 0.87% to N34.65, FCMB gained 2.69% to N11.45 and JAIZBANK rose 2.60% to N7.90, while ACCESSCORP and ZENITHBANK edged higher and GTCO, STANBIC and ETI held steady.

On the downside, brewers came under pressure again. INTBREW lost 5.94% to N10.30 and NB slipped 1.17% to N76.00. NGXGROUP eased 2.41% to N182.50, ending a four-day run of gains, while FIDELITYBK fell 1.25% to N19.80 and TRANSPOWER dropped 9.97% to N197.70.

Turnover appeared stronger on the surface, with volume up 64.40% and value up 15.88%. However, activity was heavily skewed by FIDELITYBK, which alone accounted for almost half of the day's volume and a quarter of its value. Excluding the bank, both volume and value were lower day-on-day.

Offshore participation was lighter than in the previous two sessions, with foreign interest limited to ZENITHBANK, GTCO, SEPLAT and STANBIC.

With the rally now in its fourth day and increasingly reliant on a few heavyweights, the question is whether the rebound has enough fuel left to extend the run.
