ASI Falls 16bps To 250,273.50 As FIRSTHOLDCO Drop Outweighs Gains

The All-Share Index fell 16 basis points to 250,273.50, with FIRSTHOLDCO's 5.09 per cent drop to N142.50 outweighing all gains elsewhere.
MTNN offered the most resistance, adding 0.59 per cent to N847.00, while TRANSCORP more than recovered Monday's dip with a 3.45 per cent gain to N37.50.
FIDELITYBK rose 3.42 per cent to N24.20 and PZ 4.97 per cent to N69.70, yet those four together still did not cover the gap opened by FIRSTHOLDCO. The loss leaves the index 21bps lower so far this week.
Banking stocks were split again but with wider moves. Alongside FIRSTHOLDCO, ETI lost 2.72 per cent to N68.00, STANBIC 1.16 per cent to N162.10 and ACCESSCORP 0.49 per cent lower at N30.30, while GTCO, UBA and ZENITHBANK all finished fractionally higher.
Consumer goods were mixed, with UNILEVER falling 4.06 per cent to N99.30 against PZ's gain, while NESTLE held at Monday's N2,750.00.
Some of Monday's insurance losers bounced hard. WAPIC rose 7.69 per cent to N2.38 and GUINEAINS 7.35 per cent to N0.73, each more than undoing Monday's loss.
SOVRENINS followed its earlier gain with a further 8.23 per cent rise to N2.50. At the edges of the board, LIVESTOCK and TRIPPLEG hit the ceiling for a second session running, while CMFC and ABCTRANS went to the floor.
Turnover fell on both measures, with volume down 33.83 per cent and value down 11.77 per cent. Banks supplied most of the volume, while ARADEL took the largest share of value.
ZENITHBANK was again the main draw for foreign desks, taking the largest line of the day, with GTCO, MTNN, NESTLE and DANGCEM also on screen.
Two sessions into the week, the index has been dragged lower. With the Dangote Refinery IPO closing in exactly a week, investors look to be giving it one last push before the curtain comes down, and the liquidity squeeze is starting to show.
