The All-Share Index slipped 6 basis points to 250,667.86 as losses in NESTLE outweighed modest gains elsewhere.

NESTLE supplied more than the whole loss, falling 5.17 per cent to N2,750.00. MTNN countered with a 0.24 per cent rise to N842.00, ZENITHBANK up 0.67 per cent to N135.40, DANGSUGAR up 2.94 per cent to N70.00 and STANBIC up 0.61 per cent to N164.00. The four together covered most of the NESTLE drag, though not all of it.

Banking stocks were split and quiet, with no move of 1 per cent or more among the larger names. GTCO slipped 0.45 per cent to N132.20, UBA 0.66 per cent to N45.00 and FIDELITYBK 0.43 per cent to N23.40. On the upside, FIRSTHOLDCO edged up 0.07 per cent to N150.15 and WEMABANK added 0.48 per cent to N31.50.

Consumer goods softness extended beyond NESTLE, with NB down 1.20 per cent to N73.80, INTBREW 1.50 per cent to N9.85 and CADBURY 2.52 per cent to N58.00, leaving DANGSUGAR to run against the trend.

Insurance counters recorded bigger moves. WAPIC lost 6.36 per cent to N2.21, CORNERST 3.81 per cent to N5.05 and AIICO 3.11 per cent to N4.05, while SOVRENINS went the other way, hitting the ceiling with a 10.00 per cent gain to N2.31.

Turnover rose on both measures, with volume up 57.37 per cent and value up 62.28 per cent. Half the volume and the largest share of value came through ACCESSCORP in block crosses.

Offshore interest spread across several names, with ZENITHBANK drawing the heaviest flows from two houses, while UBA and GTCO also featured on foreign desks. NESTLE and MTNN each appeared on more than one foreign desk.

Overall, one heavyweight moving against the market was enough to tip a session that was otherwise leaning slightly higher.
