The All-Share Index squeezed out a 6 basis points gain to close at 247,673.65 points on Wednesday, with ARADEL doing much of the heavy lifting.
ARADEL rose 1.67 per cent to N1,400.00 in its first move since last Thursday's limit-down session, accounting for almost all of the market's gain. Excluding ARADEL, the rest of the board was largely flat, with gains and losses cancelling each other out.
In the banking sector, trading was mixed. ACCESSCORP added 1.43 per cent to N28.40, WEMABANK climbed 2.65 per cent to N31.00, and GTCO edged up 0.23 per cent to N128.00. On the downside, FIDELITYBK shed 1.72 per cent to N20.00, while ZENITHBANK slipped 0.16 per cent to N127.80. FIRSTHOLDCO, STANBIC and ETI closed flat.
Consumer goods leaned red, with Nigerian Breweries down 1.32 per cent to N75.00 and DANGSUGAR shedding 0.87 per cent to N68.00, while UNILEVER managed a 0.49 per cent lift to N102.50.
Elsewhere, OANDO slipped 1.29 per cent to N34.55, while UPDC fell 6.02 per cent to N3.90.
Further down the board, the bulls dominated. ETRANZACT hit limit-up for another session, gaining 9.76 per cent to N15.75, while LIVESTOCK tacked on another 9.71 per cent to N16.95, extending its winning streak to eight sessions. AUSTINLAZ also hit limit-up, up 10.00 per cent to N2.42, while CMFC bounced 9.60 per cent to N3.54.
Market activity cooled, with volume down 20.36 per cent and value shedding 33.52 per cent. ACCESSCORP commanded the largest share of both volume and value, with crosses doing much of the heavy lifting.
Offshore interest remained thin, with GTCO as the main name on foreign screens and ACCESSCORP attracting a smaller showing, while ZENITHBANK's trades came entirely through local desks.
